There is a great event coming up later this month, the Small Business Resilience Workshop sponsored by Facebook taking place on November 22^nd at Facebook Menlo Park offices. This event is very timely, considering the wildfires and recent earthquakes. Checkout the event flier attached.

The Situation

As you are aware, Community resiliency initiatives, like this one, are important to the success of communities recovering from disaster. Small and mid-sized businesses often have the most to lose in a disaster, yet, they are often the least prepared. Below outlines some of the more insightful data points...

• Following a significant disaster, 40% of small businesses do not reopen and another 25% fail within one year
• For those still in business, 35% experience revenue losses over $25,000 and 20% realize asset losses over $25,000
• 68% of small-business owners don’t have a written disaster recovery plan
• 21% of businesses without disaster plan said they don’t have one because not a high priority
• 35% of businesses reported losing data or having damaged critical applications

By educating small businesses on how to prepare for and manage risk associated with disasters, we help them become more resilient to future risks.

Event Background

The small Business Resiliency Workshop is designed to prepare small business owners for disaster and disruption. They offer a variety of tools, training and resources to help participants bounce back after disaster. Facebook will lean on internal expertise, along with Bay Area public and non-profit resiliency partners, to deliver a meaningful workshop.
